Dr. Erfan Faridmoayer's Biography
Erfan’s journey began in the year 2007, a time when his exceptional talent was starting to shine. He was accepted at the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talent (NODET), a prestigious High School that nurtured young minds like his. It was during this period that Erfan’s passion for learning and his intellectual curiosity were first ignited.
After graduating from high school in 2010, Erfan immigrated to the United States to further his education. Erfan enrolled at De Anza College in Cupertino, California, where he pursued a degree in Biological Sciences. During his time there, Erfan honed his academic skills and developed a passion for science. To supplement his studies and share his knowledge, he took on the role of a Math and Science tutor, assisting fellow students in grasping complex concepts. Additionally, Erfan actively participated in various student clubs and even founded a few of his own. These experiences not only enriched his college life but also helped him develop essential leadership and teamwork abilities.
Upon graduating from De Anza College in 2012, Erfan continued his academic journey at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). There, he delved deeper into the intricacies of biology, earning a degree in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology with a minor in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures and graduated with honors. During his time at UCLA, Erfan actively engaged in research, serving as a research assistant at the David Geffen School of Medicine from October 2012 to June 2016. His contributions to scientific research further solidified his passion for the field and provided valuable hands-on experience. Beyond his academic pursuits, Erfan also demonstrated a keen interest in global affairs and social justice. He served as editor for “The Generation: UCLA’s Foreign Affairs Magazine,” contributing to thought-provoking discussions on international issues. As an author, he actively engaged in discussing and analyzing international and social issues through numerous articles. Many of his works on these topics have been published. Furthermore, Erfan was involved in global health initiatives such as “Shot at Life” under the United Nations Foundation, showcasing his commitment to improving the lives of others.
After completing his undergraduate studies at UCLA, Erfan pursued his medical degree at Oakland University William Beaumont (OUWB) School of Medicine in Auburn Hills, Michigan. During his time there, he developed a deep passion for academic surgery and excelled in his medical education. His dedication to his studies and his commitment to patient care were evident throughout his time in medical school.
Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. Erfan Faridmoayer’s completed his General Surgery Residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York. He was recognized as the top PGY-1 Resident during this phase of his training and was awarded the Chief Resident’s Award for his outstanding performance. From July 1, 2020 until the end of his life, he dedicated himself to providing exceptional patient care and advancing medical knowledge. Renowned for his compassion and dedication, Erfan made significant contributions to both patient care and medical education during his residency.
After completing his General Surgery Residency, Dr. Erfan Faridmoayer’s pursued further academic and research endeavors at Columbia University in New York. He joined the Professor Ferrari Lab as a research fellow while simultaneously pursuing a Master of Science in Biostatistics at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Erfan’s research interests focused on the molecular drivers of valve degeneration, cardiac tissue engineering, and surgical outcomes, reflecting his ongoing commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care. In 2023, he was recognized as the Outstanding Research Scholar and received the Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Citizenship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, highlighting his exceptional contributions to scientific research and the medical community. Additionally, he successfully published a chapter in the book *Translational Surgery*, which stands as one of his major academic accomplishments in medical research. Throughout his career, he authored numerous articles in both basic and clinical sciences, leaving behind a legacy of scholarly work that continues to inspire and contribute to the field.
Beyond his academic and professional pursuits, Erfan had a passion for music, particularly classical Persian piano. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as swimming, kayaking, hiking, and exploring the vibrant food scene of New York City.
